Biography
David Kirkpatrick is a sound and multimedia artist based in Sydney, Australia. His practice crosses the boundaries of composition and sound design, video and live visuals, and interactive installation.
His past work includes an installation at the Sydney Opera House which framed the stories of at-risk young people from Sydney’s west, building projections, object mapping, a multimedia theatre collaboration with Shopfront (Sydney) and Nibroll dance company (Japan), live performance with car part instruments and infra-red motion tracking, theatre scores and audiovisual compositions.
David also collaborates with Japanese choreographer and dancer Anna Kuroda under the name Murasaki Penguin. Together they have created work in Japan, Austria and Australia.
David graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2008 with a BCA First Class Honours (Sound – Composition and Music Production). He has received various accolades including Australia Council Digital Culture funding (2010), an Australia Council ArtStart Grant (2009) and a Fellowship of Australian Composers Award (2007). He was a Shopfront Contemporary Art and Performance board member from 2010 – October 2011 and continues to advocate for multimedia art in Australia.
